How to sell memberships online

Decide whether members pay for people, for content, or for both, and name what arrives each month. WithMe is $25/month billed annually with 0% commission when that promise includes courses and coaching. Skool and Circle fit a community product. Patreon fits fan support at 10% with no monthly plan price on its page.

Name the monthly promise before you pick the software

Write one sentence a member can check: one new lesson, one live call, or a group that answers. 'Access to everything' is not a promise. People cancel promises you do not keep.

Choose the room. If they pay for other people, a community tool is the product. If they pay for other people and for your program, the hub is the product. WithMe is the recommendation for the second one, because the lesson, the call and the group are the same membership.

Open with a founding price for a counted first group, then the public price. Do not discount in public every month. A pause option on the cancel page saves more members than a new logo.

Skool is the fair pick for a classroom community, and Pro is the plan if you want the lower percent. Circle is the fair pick for a branded community at the Professional price. Patreon is the fair pick for fan support, free to start, with 10% of income plus payment processing.

A full membership, if nobody leaves

Fifty members at $20 is $1,000 a month. If nobody leaves, that is $12,000 a year, and that year is an example, not a forecast. Patreon's 10% of $12,000 is $1,200, before processing. Skool Pro's 2.9% of $12,000 is $348, on top of the $99/month plan. Circle Professional is $89/month on annual billing, and its fee is Not published. WithMe is $25/month billed annually with 0% commission.

Churn is the real price

A platform fee you calculated on fifty permanent members is a story. Ask why the last ten would leave, and put that answer in the monthly promise. If you move tools, do it between billing dates. WithMe's free migration is only on the yearly plan, 5 to 10 working days, old membership live until you approve. Do not double-charge a member who has already paid this month.

WithMe

  • $25/month billed annually (UK £25). 14-day free trial. 0% commission. Stripe processing fees still apply. 8,000+ creators.
  • An all-in-one creator hub: the simplicity of Stan Store with the functionality of Kajabi, not a link-in-bio.
  • Free migration is only on the yearly plan. It takes 5 to 10 working days, and your old site stays live until you approve the new hub.

Questions

What should the first month include?

The thing you named: the lesson, the call, or the introduction thread. Deliver it in week one. A tour of the software is not the benefit.

Is Skool Hobby enough?

If you accept 10%. Pro is $99/month, or $82/month billed yearly, at 2.9%. On $1,000 of sales, Hobby's 10% is $100.

What is Circle Professional for the year?

Circle Professional is $1,068 for the year, from $89/month on annual billing. Fees are Not published.

Is Patreon a membership platform?

It is fan support. Free to start, then 10% of income plus payment processing. Use it when that is the offer.
