Recipe ebook versus membership
Does your audience want a complete answer once, or continuing help with meals?
A practical decision guide, with no verified findings or benchmark. Calculator values are assumptions, not observed creator results.
Choose the buying job
An ebook can resolve a bounded need such as a collection for a particular occasion. A membership can support continuing meal planning. Selling one does not establish demand for the other, even when both contain recipes.
Use one comparison horizon
Compare ebook purchases with the expected paid membership months over the same period. Include editing and design on the ebook side, and repeated testing and support on the membership side. The calculator compares gross revenue assumptions; it does not predict conversion or renewals.
Check overlap before combining
An ebook may complement a membership, replace part of it, or attract a different audience. Record whether buyers already belong to the membership. Without that join, adding the two revenue totals cannot show incremental demand or cannibalisation.
Your assumptions, not research findings
One-time product versus membership
Starting values are illustrative arithmetic examples. Enter your own assumptions in a single currency.
Calculation: One-time price × buyers versus monthly price × members × paid months.
Gross revenue only. Use one horizon and currency. Excludes costs, fees, refunds and overlap between buyers.
The evidence this question needs
Proposed: reviewed recipe businesses with separately classified ebook and recurring membership offers, using a shared observation horizon.
- Reviewed ebook classification; a digital file is not necessarily a recipe ebook.
- Linked buyer/product purchase history, refunds and paid member-months over the agreed horizon.
Proposed minimum: 20 independently reviewed businesses per cohort. Sample size does not approve business stage, independence, statistical precision or disclosure safety.
- Source/schema review
- Data freshness
- Pending authorised export; no observations analysed
