Annual versus monthly memberships

What does an annual commitment change for the member and the business?

WithMe data · price snapshot 22 Oct 2026

Prices that creators who made at least one sale on WithMe in the past year were charging on that day. How we measured is below the figures.

How we measured. One vote per creator: the median of each creator’s own prices for that kind of product, then the median across creators, in the creator’s own selling currency, never converted.

Left out: free, hidden, draft and payment-plan offers; paid messages; prices not in the creator’s selling currency; creators whose sales were split evenly between currencies; creators with no sale in the past year; any group under 20 creators.

Full methodology

Compare the commitment

An annual upfront price is not twelve monthly renewals. Show its discount against twelve monthly payments and the full upfront amount. Check that both offers provide the same service and access before interpreting the difference.

Separate cash from earned revenue

Upfront receipts create an obligation to deliver over time. The calculator shows a simple monthly equivalent and upfront receipts for assumed buyers. It does not calculate revenue recognition, tax or the cost of refunds.

Wait for annual renewal

Monthly retention can be observed sooner than annual renewal. Compare cancellation intent, continuing access and paid renewal separately. A month-old annual subscriber has not demonstrated a successful annual renewal.

Outside research and guidance

These sources inform the decision framework. They are attributed to their publishers and are not observations of WithMe businesses.

  • Stripe: Revenue recognition for subscription businesses (source date )

An upfront annual payment covers service delivered over time, so cash received and earned revenue answer different questions.

Limit: Accounting guidance, not evidence that an annual offer improves creator retention or revenue.

Your assumptions, not research findings

Annual commitment scenario

Starting values are illustrative arithmetic examples. Enter your own assumptions in a single currency.

Calculation: Discount = (1 − annual ÷ (12 × monthly)) × 100; monthly equivalent = annual ÷ 12.

Equal service assumed. Upfront cash is not earned monthly revenue. A negative discount is an annual premium.

Limits of these figures

Creators who sold at least once in the past year and have a monthly membership, not split by niche yet.

  • Prices offered, not how many members chose yearly.
  • Renewal and retention are not measured yet: a yearly price does not show that members stay.
  • List prices on one day, not what customers actually paid.
  • Pound and dollar figures describe different creators; never convert one into the other.
